Junior Urban Forester/Consulting Arborist

Location: Parsippany, NJ
Salary:

Paul Cowie + Associates, Inc. (PC+A) is a professional consulting firm of arborists, ecologists, and urban foresters that provide expert advice in the preservation, enhancement, and long-term management of individual trees and tree populations. We strive to be on the forefront of urban forestry development by pragmatically implementing the latest scientific research and developing management approaches that use sustainable urban forestry to mitigate the local effects of climate change. To fill the urban forester opening, we are looking for an intellectually curious individual with the desire to make a positive impact. The ideal candidate has the building blocks to become an effective arborist, but also possesses complementary technical skills and/or education/experience outside of the arboricultural field.

 

LOCATION: Office in Parsippany, NJ, job sites generally in the NJ and NY area.

POSITION TYPE: Full-time, part-time flexibility negotiable.

COMPENSATION: Pay commensurate with experience.

BENEFITS: Reimbursement of mileage and tolls for personal vehicle use to project sites. After 6-months: health insurance stipend, 10 paid vacation days, 5 paid personal/sick days, 8 paid holidays (includes 2 floating holidays).

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES + DUTIES

» Learn and apply tree identification and evaluation skills; independently

conduct tree inventory and evaluation after approximately 1-year.

» Assist team members in conducting field work.

» Assist team members in completing various project tasks, including but not limited to:

» Data entry;

» GIS map composition, spatial data analysis;

» Report composition.

» Complete all projects and tasks to a superior level of quality.

» Reliable transportation to and from project sites.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS + QUALIFICATIONS

» 4-year degree or 3 years related work experience.

» Basic tree identification.

» Excellent oral and written communication.

» Highly organized; legible handwriting.

» Ability to work alone effectively; self-motivated.

» Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Excel.

» Able to learn and apply new skills quickly.

» Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS + QUALIFICATIONS

» Ability to take and pass ISA Certified Arborist and NJ Licensed Tree Expert exams within 1-year of employment.

» GIS experience.

» AutoCAD experience.

» Prior experience in tree care and tree risk assessment.

» Education or experience in forestry, ecology, sustainability, landscape architecture, and/or city planning.

» Web programming experience (HTML, Javascript, Database).

» Experience in graphic design for report and marketing material development.

» Report composition.

» Complete all projects and tasks to a superior level of quality.

» Reliable transportation to and from project sites.
