Plant Health Care Technician
Location: Oyster Bay, New York
Salary: based on experience/ competitive
Description: The Plant Health Care (PHC) Technician is an important position in the PHC Department that is responsible for completing the majority of the traditional PHC services, such as fertilization, tree injection and foliar sprays. The PHC Technician is commonly tasked with performing root collar excavations, girdling root inspections and soil remediation services. As such, the Technician is expected to be, or become, proficient with the use of an air compressor and Airspade and have a working knowledge of soils and tree anatomy. The Technician’s actions are all directed toward satisfying the client, the Arborist Representative and PHC Director, while at the same time maintaining a safe, efficient, and productive operation. The Technician will be required to assist other departments of the company, on an as needed basis, based on workloads.
Responsibilities:
- Effectively communicate with clients and maintain client satisfaction.
- Effectively communicate with all members of Wonderland
- Work with limited to no supervision to complete the assigned daily tasks.
- Know when to ask questions or for help when needed.
- Perform Plant Health Care Operations (March through November)
- Knowledge of products being used.
- Able to read and understand product labels.
- Proper treatment applications
- Complete application record keeping and paperwork.
- Proper mixing of pesticides and fertilizers.
- Proper storage or EPA regulated products.
- Organize and store products received daily (shared with PHC Specialist)
- Safely operate large tank trucks and navigate local roadways and highways.
Qualifications:
- Have a basic working knowledge of Tree Biology and Anatomy
- Have a basic working knowledge of local pest issues associated with treatments.
- Ability to identify the products required to complete assigned daily tasks.
Requirements:
- ISA Arborist Certification or the ability to attain within 6 months of promotion.
- New York State Certified Commercial Pesticide Technician or Applicator License, Category 3A.
- Safe work habits that include the use of all PPE required for the designated daily tasks.
- Clean driving record (Required) / CDL class A or B license (air brakes preferred).
· A degree in Arboriculture, Plant Science, Horticulture, Entomology, Pathology or a related field preferred.
