Established South Florida Landscape Company is seeking qualified, highly organized landscape maintenance professionals to join our growing team, which caters to commercial and government clients in the fields of landscape maintenance, design & installation, and arbor care.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The General Manager oversees the strategic direction and operations of the landscape division, which includes ground maintenance, irrigation maintenance, landscape enhancements, and arbor care. The GM ensures a cohesive vision is maintained throughout all aspects of management.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
You will perform a wide variety of landscape maintenance functions related to the daily performance of contracted services. This includes but is not limited to:
- Strategic Planning: Develop and implement long-term strategies to enhance business growth and profitability.
- Operational Management: Oversee daily operations, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Ensure that managers and teams fully understand and implement strategies that enhance the brand and drive profitable revenue growth in assigned markets.
- Management: Manage the performance and development of managers and business development staff to ensure alignment with company goals and adherence to the sales process. Oversee significant administrative and support functions, including but not limited to the following: sustainable fleet and equipment procurement and management, budget management, stores and stocking, risk management related to landscape functions, management plans, inspection programs
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of managers and staff, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Client Relations: Develop a strong customer focus with both internal and external customers and key business partners (i.e. suppliers and community relations) through strong relationship-building and delivering the company brand & values.
- Financial Oversight: Manage budgets, financial planning, and reporting to ensure financial health and sustainability.
- Business Development: Identify and pursue new business opportunities to expand the company’s market presence.
- Compliance: Ensure that all operations adhere to industry regulations and safety standards. Prioritize safety and actively champion these principles within the division.
- Communication: Exhibiting superb communication skills, this leader will partner closely with their teams to set goals and objectives before effectively delegating plans and actions to front line teams and workers. Foster a collaborative environment by building consensus to enhance employee engagement, while demonstrating decisiveness when necessary. Establish and cultivate meaningful partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Effectively create, manage and deliver requirements of customer contracts. Is aware of the inputs to creating effectives estimates.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Experience: Extensive experience in the landscaping industry, with a proven track record in a senior management role. 10+ years of experience in landscape maintenance and related fields, along with significant leadership experience in a geographically dispersed, service-oriented business.
- Education: A degree in landscape architecture, business administration, or a related field is preferred. While a bachelor's degree is ideal, a combination of relevant education and experience will also be considered.
- Skills: Strong leadership, communication, organizational and time management skills. Proficiency in financial management and strategic planning.
- Knowledge: Extensive understanding of landscaping techniques, materials, and industry trends, with deep expertise in plant materials, trees, and palms.
- Strong fiscal acumen with the ability to develop detailed budgets, anticipate needs and requirements across multiple years, and to adhere to budgetary constraints through sound management practices.
- Exceptional administrative and technical skills, and a focus on striving for best management practices and inventive solutions.
- Approachable and adaptive leadership style, with a keen interest in coaching and mentoring both teams and individuals.
- Must be fluent in English and Spanish.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate strong administrative paperwork and organizational skills.
- Ability to effectively prioritize needs.
- Attention to detail when working in a fast-paced environment.
- Accurately and consistently complete all required paperwork.
- Proven success in sales, demonstrating strong customer experience and a solid track record of retention and growth. Comfortable engaging with clients and effectively communicating to drive results. A minimum of 10 years of customer service experience is required.
- Prove strong initiative with ability to work with limited direct supervision.
- Forecast labor, materials and equipment needs.
- Adhere to, and enforce all company policies, standards, and safety guidelines.
- Meet or exceed company production rates set forth.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite
- A valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record are required.
- Landscape industry / horticulture certifications preferred (FNGLA, ISA, LIAF)
- Must pass a pre-employment screening including Level-2 Background Check and drug test.
- Adhere to grooming standards as outlined in SFM’s Employee Handbook.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to work in and around various landscaping settings including direct contact with various plant and landscaping materials and exposure to various dust, noise, and weather conditions.
- Ability to drive a vehicle.
- Must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
