City Forester

Location: DeLand, Florida
Salary: $62,000 - $65,000

Job Summary:

Develops and implements plans to plant and maintain urban landscaping, park and right-of-way trees and plantings, irrigation systems, and related amenities.  This employee plans, organizes, and coordinates the activities of the City's Forestry Programs.  The employee enforces tree preservation ordinances and provides and coordinates public and staff forestry educational programs.  The employee coordinates landscaping and forestry activities with other divisions, departments, agencies, utilities and the general public. 

Job Description:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plans and coordinates the development of City ordinances, land development regulations, administrative programs, policies, long range goals, and work procedures.
• Serves as the City's liaison in coordinating staff participation and support of the Tree Advisory Committee.
• Manages the Forestry inventory of all street trees, park trees and trees on other City Property.
• Drafts contracts and specifications, management reports and program proposals for landscaping and forestry activities.
• Reviews land development plans, tree calculations, and landscaping and irrigation plans for conformance with City Land Development Regulations.  Participates as a member of the City’s Land Development Technical Review Committee. 
• Reviews and issues permits for tree removal, pruning, and maintenance.
• Monitors activities of utility companies, contractors and private citizens in relation to the requirements of the City ordinances.
• Develops and implements a work plan and budget for the maintenance of landscaping on public rights-of-way, parks and forested land.
• Advises public and developers on general tree care procedures.
• Conducts public presentations on the City's beautification and forestry programs.
• Coordinates volunteer support and works with community groups to support the City’s Forestry Program
• Supervises City nursery.
