We invite your community to join Tree Cities of the World, an Arbor Day Foundation initiative, and a global network of communities recognized as leaders in the sustainable management of urban trees and forests. Many communities already utilize innovative practices that keep city trees healthy. Now, Tree Cities of the World allows communities to share their successes and learn from others around the world about planting and tending to an urban forest in the community.

Correction for the June Issue of Arborist News

An important update has been made in the most recent issue of Arborist News correcting errors found in the CEU article “Plant Appraisal Data Collection (Part Two).” The changes affect pages 19 – 20 and Table 4.3. Please refer to the online version of this issue for the most accurate information.

Taiwan Arborist Society Hosts International Tree Climbing Competition

Congratulations to Jason Ma from Hong Kong and ZH Hsu from Taiwan, the winners of the 2019 Taiwan International Tree Climbing Competition. Twelve countries participated in the event including Taiwan, the U.S., Canada, Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand. The championship was held 29 – 30 June 2019 and coincided with a Tree Protection Fair. 

Forestry Students Lend a Helping Hand at ISA’s Annual Conference

The 2019 ISA Annual International Conference and Trade Show and the International Tree Climbing Championship (ITCC) and Arbor Fair are large-scale events that require the help of many volunteers. The activities begin with the three-day ITCC World Championship and Arbor Fair held 9 – 11 August at beautiful Lakeshore Park overlooking the Tennessee River, and continue with the conference and trade show which take place at the Knoxville Convention Center, 11 – 14 August. The conference will feature several guest speakers and industry experts.

Here at ISA we are closing out the 2018 – 2019 fiscal year and marking the six-month anniversary in our Atlanta headquarters. As ISA continues to grow and evolve, the hard work, engagement and dedication of members, volunteers, board and committee members, component groups and CoR are essential to the organization and remain important to ISA team members. I want to share a few accomplishments and data points realized since our move from Champaign. 

Dunster Bolsters Profession — Helps Arborists Become Better Writers and Communicators

To help arborists communicate more effectively, Julian Dunster, owner of Dunster and Associates, will facilitate two pre-conference workshops at the 2019 ISA Annual International Conference and Trade Show. 

Making Connections: App Links Volunteers with Arborists to Increase Tree Stewardship

Tree‐savvy volunteers and arboricultural professionals are a winning combination for the protection of city trees. Volunteers — especially citizen scientists — play an indispensable role in the care of trees in cities nationwide, through planting, stewarding, monitoring, and most importantly, advocating for trees. Citizen scientists are even more effective when supported by trained professionals who can make informed management decisions and have the skills and resources to implement them.

North American Tree Climbing Competition — Volunteer Registration

Be a part of the action by volunteering for the North American Tree Climbing Competition (NATCC). The competition will take place 11 – 13 October 2019 at Balboa Park in San Diego, California. The NATCC is an exciting display of performance excellence and safe tree climbing practices. The deadline for volunteer registration is 1 September 2019. Feature articles range between 1500 to 2000 words; shorter articles range between 500 to 1000 words. Images are encouraged.
